Even though she was married to an Italian diplomat who taught a crude and brutish Benito Mussolini how to dress and use a knife and a fork, Sarah Jane Sanford probably led the least adventurous life of the three children of John and Ethel Sanford of Amsterdam, NY. By the time the three of them were born, the Sanford family had more money than they could spend in a lifetime, though they certainly gave doing so their best try.
You can read my complete story about this Amsterdam heiress and her Italian diplomat hubby in the new 2nd Edition of my book “A Year’s Worth of Amsterdam NY Birthdays” which will be available for sale on Saturday, December 10, 2016. If you’d like to receive a copy from the first printing, fill out this reservation form and someone will contact you. The book will also be on sale at Liberty Fresh Market (4867 NY Route 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010) beginning that same day!
