September 7 – Happy Birthday Mark Major

major2Gene and Barbara Major raised four children in their home on Hagaman’s Northern Boulevard. They included two girls, Deborah and Lisa and two boys, today’s Birthday celebrant Mark and his baby brother Geoffrey. The Majors were a perfect fit for the Hagaman community. They were a close-knit, active, hardworking and well-liked family. Mark was born on September 7, 1958 and he sprouted pretty quickly, growing about a head taller than his dad by the time he got to Junior High. He was a gifted athlete who excelled in both baseball and hoops and he was a strong student as well. After graduating from Amsterdam High School he earned his bachelor’s from Union and went on to graduate from Albany Law School.

He ended up moving north to Edinburg and opening a law office in what had once been a Stewart’s convenience store on West Avenue in Saratoga. He joined the Saratoga County Public Defender’s Office and also developed a reputation as one of the area’s top defense attorneys.

Meanwhile Mark’s younger brother Geoff had decided to follow his brother onto the legal profession…

My complete birthday post for Mark Major will appear in the new second edition of A Year’s Worth of Amsterdam, NY Birthdays, which will be available before the 2016 Holiday season. I also distribute an Amsterdam, NY Birthday Blog Monthly Newsletter that includes the full birthday posts for three of the twenty-to-thirty  people whose birthdays I recognize each month. Each newsletter also includes an Amsterdam Birthday Quiz that will test your knowledge and memory of people and events in your hometown.

The monthly newsletter is free. If you’d like to receive it, just make sure your name and e-mail address are included on this list.
