April 27 – Happy Birthday William Sinram

BillSinram2Bill Sinram was born on April 27, 1920. He came to Amsterdam during the spring of 1941 to become the starting third baseman of the Amsterdam Rugmakers. The New York Yankees had signed the 5’9″ red headed native of Long Island’s Suffolk County the year before and assigned him to their D-level minor league affiliate in Butler, Pennsylvania. Sinram passed that 25-game test with flying colors, averaging .333 and showing a great glove and good range at the hot corner. That ’41 Rugmaker ball club he was joining featured four pitchers who would eventually make it to the Majors, including a 22-year old Italian boy from Springfield, Massachusetts named Vic Raschi. The young third baseman put together an outstanding second season in pro ball, playing in all 123 games for Amsterdam that year, batting a stellar .335, leading the team in …
