A local legend will be laid to rest on Monday morning up at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Judge Robert Sise absolutely loved this community from the moment his parents brought him here to live as a 13-year-old boy. In a city that revered its sports figures, he was a good enough baseball player in his younger days to play minor league ball both as a third baseman and pitcher. After serving his country, he made the law his profession and before he retired he had been named New York State’s Chief Administrative Judge, which I believe is the highest judicial ranking ever achieved by a resident of Amsterdam. With the career he had, he could have easily chosen to move his large family to a more convenient location in New York State but instead, he and his wife Theresa chose to raise their nine boys here. The number of people who enjoyed his friendship or benefitted from his compassion certainly reached into the four figures during the 90 years he was on this Earth. He didn’t just love life, he made the absolute most of his and in doing so he made this city a better place for all of us. My sincerest condolences to his large and loving family. Job well done your Honor.
