February 6 – Happy Birthday Luke Maile

Luke_MRegular readers of this Blog are quite used to reading about the   exploits of former players from the old Amsterdam Rugmakers   baseball team. Today I’m thrilled to recognize the first Amsterdam   Mohawk to be featured in this forum. His name is Luke Maile. He   was born on February 5, 1991 in Edgewood, Kentucky. After putting   together a stellar career as a high school catcher, which included   winning Kentucky’s Mr. Baseball Award during his senior season at   Covington Catholic High School in Park Hills, KY, Maile was drafted   by the Red Sox in the 43rd round of the 2009 MLB Draft. When   Boston failed to meet his contract demands, he accepted a   scholarship to play for the University of Kentucky. In addition to bringing our community the highest quality competitive baseball it has seen since the Rugmakers played here, the renovations he’s engineered to the ballpark up at Shuttleworth and his promotional genius when it comes to getting people to watch and enjoy Mohawk games have been nothing short of amazing. During Maile’s first season here, he averaged .318 in 66 at bats over 23 games and impressed everyone with his play behind the plate. It was also during that summer of 2010 that Maile met Amsterdam native Paige Archinal…

I’ve already started work on the second volume of “A Year’s Worth of Amsterdam Birthdays” and Luke Maile’s complete story will be featured in it. I will be sharing the complete posts of some of the Volume II birthday celebrants in future issues of the Amsterdam Birthday Blog Newsletter. If you are not yet a newsletter subscriber, you can sign up for free here.

Maile share his February 6th birthday with this former Amsterdam beauty queen and this talented one-time Amsterdam High School thespian.
