January 19 – Happy Birthday Phil Spencer Jr.

spencerHe is Amsterdam’s last Spalletta, the second son of Phil and Fran and the younger brother of Joe. His Dad was the driving force behind the emergence of WCSS as Amsterdam’s premier radio station. His big brother became a national news correspondent for ABC, tragically dying in a helicopter crash while covering a 1986 meat plant strike for that network in Minnesota. By then, Phil Sr. had officially changed the family’s surname to Spencer and Phil Spencer Jr. had graduated from Bishop Scully, served his country as a member of the US Army and became one of the most popular rock radio DJ’s and high school play-by-play announcers in the history of the Rug City…
