December 25 – Happy Birthday Sal Guarino

guarinobigGreno Industries is one of the great entrepreneurial success stories in the history of the Amsterdam, NY area. Amsterdam native Vince Guarino came out of General Electric Company in the early 1960’s and opened up a metal cutting service and supply shop that was set up to serve the types of metal-cutting work Guarino knew GE was most interested in bidding out. In the 1970s’ that machine shop expanded into the production of high quality valves for military and industrial applications. Today the company has the capability of machining parts composed of a wide range of materials to extremely tight tolerances, using state-of-the-art technologies and machines.

There is no doubt that one of the smartest things Vince Guarino did when he started this amazing business was to bring his younger brother and today’s Amsterdam Birthday celebrant into the company as its Controller. Sal Guarino was actually born in Italy on Christmas day in 1933. His parents had first moved to America in 1926 and returned to Italy three years later.
