December 22 – Happy Birthday Father Anthony Mycek

father2Anthony Mycek came to Amsterdam, NY from Poland in 1908, when he was 17-years-old and secured a job in the Bigelow Sanford rug mill. He married his wife Anna in 1912 and the couple raised four children, two boys and two daughters, in their home on Edwards Street. The family made St. Stanislaus Church a central part of their lives and that deep connection to their faith undoubtedly helped two of their children to decide on pursuing religious vocations. Their youngest daughter, Mary became a nun and their oldest boy and today’s Birthday celebrant Anthony Mycek, Jr. became a priest.

Born on December 22, 1916, Anthony attended St. Stanislaus School until eighth grade and then graduated from Amsterdam High School in the class of 1935 …
