December 13 – Happy Birthday Katherine Strobeck

strobe2The cool thing about the late local historian Katherine Strobeck was that she didn’t just love to study local history and write about it, her bloodline actually connected her to folks who helped shape the stories of our past that she uncovered and chronicled. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of her ancestors, a woman named Marla Staples had been accused of being a witch back in the mid 1600’s. Another founded the community now known as Glens Falls, New York in the mid 1700’s. Amsterdam, New York’s Steadwell Avenue is named after her grandfather and her family owned Amsterdam Lumber, which used to be located on the City’s South Side…
