December 1 – Happy Birthday Richard E. Turner

rturner2Under the leadership of today’s featured Birthday celebrant, Amsterdam’s John J. Turner & Sons, Inc. construction company built the Gideon Putnam Hotel, the Wilbur Lynch High School, the First National bank of Amsterdam, Woodrow Wilson School, Amsterdam’s Century Clubhouse and Elk’s Lodge, additions to both St. Mary’s and Amsterdam City Hospitals, Little Falls Hospital, the Watervliet High School, Glens Falls Insurance building, and industrial plants for General Electric, Mohawk Carpets, New York Power & Light and the list goes on. It was an astonishing resume for any building firm but especially for a family owned business operating through the depths of what was at the time America’s worst ever recession.

And much of the credit for this phenomenal success had to go to Richard E. Turner…
