April 27 – Happy Birthday Sam Riccio

RiccioThere were Riccio families being raised in Amsterdam on both sides of the river back in the first half of the twentieth century and today’s Amsterdam Birthday celebrant was from the South Side family. His name was Sam and he was born on April 27, 1921. He was one of seven children (three boys and four girls) born to Mr. and Mrs Joseph Riccio. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, young Sam Riccio was working as a machinist in the Bigelow-Sanford mills. His turn to serve his country began two weeks shy of his 22nd birthday in 1943…
