
He just may have been the greatest and most influential medical doctor to ever practice in our Rug City. Dr. Charles Stover graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1880 and opened his practice in Amsterdam that same year. His father was Martin Stover, the widely known Lutheran minister whose birthday we recognized on the first day of this month. One of Stover’s brother’s became a New York State Supreme Court Justice and another was co-owner of Amsterdam’s Van Rocklin & Stover Knitting Mill. But of all the Stover’s, it would be Charles who would make the most important and lasting mark on our City.
